This proposed innovation raises more thoughts and questions than I care to limit to a "comment". Is there a responsible party with whom one might talk about this?

Weekly Benchmark Report system now in final test phase

The staff at our church is already over whelmed by the volume of work they are expected to do, now the conference is adding more "busy work" on them. Take a look at the other parts of this web site and lets get them up to date. The laity page has not been updated since January. The Lay Speaking Ministries is dormant. Let's make all areas accountable.

I think this is a great way to keep us accountable. We have gone far too long without a measurement of effectiveness in making disciples. I applaud this effort and will be participating 100%.

Bishop Willimon to return to North Alabama for another four years

Steve Lyles wrote on 7/25/2008 11:11:08 AM

I was honored to be elected a Delegate from North Alabama and I thank the good Delegates to our Annual Conference for electing me. It was a great experience to go to Junaluska and be part of electing a Bishop. Bishop Leeland will be our neighbor in Al-West Fla for the next four years. Also, I am delighted Bishop Willimon will be returning to North Alabama. I feel our Conference will prosper the next four years under Bishop Willimon's leadership. Steve Lyles

I understand the need for more updated info on churches, and agree with the plan to require that churches report these figures on a standardized, regular basis. But to generate a weekly bean-counting so we can give the DS's a printout to monitor local congregations sounds like more beauracratic busy-work than anything else to me. I'd be more happy if my DS simply visited my worship services every once in a while to gauge the quality of what's happening.

Movie to feature Wiley College historic debate team

The most disturbing thing about this movie was the quotation from Gandhi. Gandhi's letters and work in South Africa was extremely prejudiced against black people and it is a pity that african americans continue to celebrate a racist like Gandhi in their movies and literature. Every gandhi-lover should read Gandhi's collected works.

Bill and Wendy Boggan, Congrats! Now, please, put a picture up. I guess we really will have to trade Georgia-Alabama jokes! *LOL* OK... "Three preacher: one from Georgia, one from Alabama, and one from Florida arrive at the Golden Gates and greet Saint Peter. ..." (You can tell it's a joke, 'cause there ain't no WAY that all three of 'em could get somewhere at the same time!) Much love, success, and lasting memories, jon slate (your baptist best friend)
